History & Heritage of the Vendée

Discover the Vendée

Our guest house enjoys a central location in the Vendée region. It's an excellent base for exploring the history and heritage of the area. Among the must-sees, you can enjoy the village of Apremont, Mazeilles Abbey, and Nieul-sur-l'Autise Abbey. Your hosts, François-Xavier and Marie-Hélène, are happy to advise you. They can recommend great places to eat and drink, as well as iconic Vendée landmarks to discover. You can also visit the Tourist Office website to learn more about the region.

A stay in the heart of nature

For those who love walking and cycling, the Vendée is a dream destination for your next getaway. Whether inland or along the coast, beautiful walks await you.

On the coast, discover the Pointe du Payré or the Plage du Veillon. To reach the coastline, particularly Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, you can take the cycle path that passes just 100 meters from the Château de la Marronnière.

Other natural sites are just waiting to be admired, such as the Lac d’Apremont and the Lac du Jaunay. With family, friends, or for any other occasion, you can enjoy a pleasant walk around them.

The Logis de La Chabotterie

To discover more about the region's history, you could, for example, visit La Chabotterie. A key site in the War in the Vendée, this must-see location offers educational activities that will appeal to both young and old. Enjoy a fascinating visit to this historical monument!

Sports activities

You can reach Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie by bike, during a lovely ride. A cycle path passes 100m from our establishment and will allow you to cover the 30km that separate you from the coast.

Travelers wishing to perfect their swing can also enjoy the 5 golf courses in Vendée. Château de la Marronnière is centrally located.

Winemaking expertise

The Vendée is a wine country: you will have the pleasure of discovering the different AOCs of the region during your stay. Explore the vineyards and estates in the surrounding area by following the Wine Route, which passes near the Château de la Marronnière.

A family activity

We recommend a visit to La Roche-sur-Yon. There you'll find the Haras de la Vendée, a 4.5-hectare park dedicated to horses. During shows and summer activities, children and adults alike can discover the world of horses. At the Vendée Memorial, you can also learn more about the Neolithic history of the region.
